I see #mosaic in .... this coral #orange necklace

And of course I like it. Why? Cause I love coral orange. And I am all in when it comes to randomness and minimalism.

I'm Imooized

Some amazing jewelery from IMOOI including a mosaic pattern. I love the polished look of these! They might be a bit "industrial" but they are very classy.

Fish and Pearls Mosaic Cartier Scarf

I found this scarf on Pinterest from ComoMilano and I'm thinking of a mosaic art on scarves legacy pioneered by Hermes and previously featured on my blog.

This version - from Cartier - shows a new distinct style far away from anything vintage or classical. It's a mix and stir of diverse images for a very edgy, bold result.

Notice how there's no focus on one of the elements (mosaic or fish or pearls) but it's how together they form a unique image that rivals any other similar designer scarf for the improbable combination of sea life on tiles - and not water.

JewelMint Metal Mosaic Ring

Interesting idea of a one-piece mosaic crafted in such a way that it literally blends jewelery making and mosaic art. I'm not sure how long this has been available on jewelmint but it has definetely made an impact on women. Just google metal mosaic ring.

micromosaic brooch with doves price realised £1875:

The work involved in making a mosaic of such small scale is incredible and has been daunting me for the last few years as I keep on postponing trying out this type of mosaic work (with themes less classical and more glam).

Have a great week!

New Hermes Paris store (and under the influence of mosaic)

via

I am fascinated with Hermes and the fact that they love mosaic and have incorporated it in their products. The mosaic logo on the floor is situated in the newly launched luxury boutique on 17 Rue De Sèvres on the left bank in Paris once used to be Hotel Lutetia's indoor swimming pool.

More on Paris popcorn as well as on the accessorator.

Hermes, the Greek God, was the Messenger, flying from one place to the other to spread and deliver the news!

So if I was to pretend I was an ancient Greek lady, I would ask HERMES for assistance so that all my followers from www.musingovermosaic.blogspot.com can join me here!

This is the first post on new Mosaicology.

So what is new?

1. A new location that corresponds to the blog's name mosaicology.blogspot.com

2. Left and right columns for easier browsing and more professional look.

3. You can email me with a click! Do you like the button? It is on the left column under my profile which I have updated.

4. I have selected some videos (go down right column) that I find interesting and informative on mosaic how to. It is not easy to find good quality videos or videos that actually show you step by step all the things you need to know but at least it is a way to get an idea.

5. My new banner now. I have made something I am happy about. I am such a perfectionist and I sincerely hope this is it. I love purple (the colour of emperors and princes) and I adore gold mosaics. I have also given a short description for this blog to help the people not familiar with this blog (for those who have recently joined and those who will do so later).

What is new about me?  That is a surprise! Follow me here NOW and you will not be disappointed!

The best is yet to come and the best things come to those who wait.........

I will not be posting on my old blog anymore.

Tribal bag and African mosaics

Time flies.

I have just realised it has been 10 days since my last post.

The picture above illustrates what is considered as one of the trends of the moment. The New York Times proclaims that the "IT" Bag has gone Tribal this season (source of information fashion trendsetter.)

Those who have been following this blog from the beginning know of my love for beadwork and this is what has driven me to associate the tribal bag with mosaic; talking not of mosaic art itself but "other art forms that resemble mosaic art and its patters".

I am not a fan of tribal fashion but ancient mosaics and in this case Roman African mosaics are worth looking into for inspiration.

The term "tribal" however baffles me like the word "ethnic". I don't like it when they coin terms and then forget about the source or what that term really implies or what are the principles it entails.

Enjoy the rest of the SUNday. No sun here but feeling good.........

ps: the bag is designed by Silvia Tcherassi. Read more here.

Beads and Mosaic

Sometimes I wonder if there is another art form which could resemble to mosaic and I always end up thinking about beads and not painting nor ceramics. Beads have this feature in common with mosaic = pieces (small objects) that form and cover space with the intention to create a specific and pre-determined design. Now, with beads no cutting is involved whereas mosaic demands an extreme patience.

I have a confession to make.

I have thought of doing beadwork and let mosaic rest for a while considering that my current obligations do not favour much mosaic making..which saddens me. This of course does not mean I can't try some beadwork but when I tried it on a little jeans bag I had made, it didn't give me the satisfaction that mosaic does. But there's more. When you try deviate from your route something happens. You are not happy: 1. you don't do what you are supposed to do, 2. what you do..well you know nothing about, you are trying and experimenting but this is not what you want - substitutes? who wants substitutes? who wants to work with beads when it's mosaics you want to do? I will not provide any answer. I am too tired - mentally and physically - but it's good to put down the questions..at least!

Here's some of the beadwork by Valdes I love most. I think it's older work.

your comments will be very welcome on the subject.

Make your wrist glitter

I have previously featured Bea Valdes and some other bead work which would resemble in a way mosaic. The way I see it, this is a good start to begin to draw more people closer to mosaic art.
Here's what i digged out today, i love it, what do you think?

Beads and the Queen of BEAds=BEA Valdes

This is a wonderful beaded headband that recently caught my attention. I love and insist on beads. I think it's because it's the only way to "wear mosaic" or better, mosaic-like material.
here's a close look at the bead work:

images from www.net-a-porter.com

To demonstrate the "power" of beads, here's a peek on an outstanding work with beads by - for those who have not heard about her yet - Bea Valdes....Just watch, dream, envision and get inspired or sit back and wonder how on "earth" does she do it. You can love her or hate her. She is from the Philippines and her business is based there. By the way Hollywood chic stars are drooling over her creations (apart from us ordinary people)..

Here's a stunning necklace in the hues of gray that astounds me (if the above wasn't enough!):

Besides her own website, a wonderful place to browse her work closely is Couture Lab which features Bea Valdes.
