#Mosaic and #fashion on TV: It's an American Crime Story

A year has passed since my last post. August is a weird month. It kind of breathes mosaic even when I am not holding any tesserae.

I don't know what you think about Versace's murder being the theme for a TV series but the news is certainly mind-boggling for mosaicistas, fashionistas and everyone in between.

And there you have it. The 2nd season of the anthology series American Crime Story unravels the story of Gianni Versace's shocking murder. Of course, I did a little digging and found out what Versace's partner had to say about the series.

Versace's home (Casa Casaurina, now a hotel) is opulently decorated with mosaics and the series should be a feast for our eyes. We'll wait and see.

10 years ago someone was making a mosaic pattern dress

Guys, this is Gattinoni (he makes amazing handbags) and it's from the year 2004 if I am not mistaken. I got it from BBC News here.

I see #mosaic in .... this coral #orange necklace

And of course I like it. Why? Cause I love coral orange. And I am all in when it comes to randomness and minimalism.

Rihanna's #mosaic bikini version

Have you seen Rihanna wearing this mosaic bikini? Well, if you haven't, I'm telling you it's from 2011. I wonder if she knows about the bikini girls of Piazza Armerina but who cares if she does. Thing is, kudoz to her for choosing faux tiles. You see mosaic NEVER goes OUT of FASHION. Mosaic is posh.

A presto,

Magda

Mosaic is posh (or what this blog is about)

As I was trying to find something appropriate as a cover for my Facebook Page, I was thinking about what message I have been trying to give to my readers and fans since I started the blog and how this blog has evolved.

It didn't take long to come up with the motto "Mosaic is posh" as I'm already using the word "posh" in my designs. But that's not the reason why. I mean, yes, mosaic is a trend - a timeless trend - and it's associated with prestige and times of prosperity (think Hellenistic times, 6th century and 11th century Byzantium) but mosaic is more than that.

Mosaic can be an inspiration for people who are not directly involved in mosaic making. In my case, I have used mosaic in combination with other things, to show its importance and its influence. I have located clothes, accessories, scarfs, objects that "subconsciously" had mosaic in them and I mosaicologised them. And I did this "unconsciously".

For about three years, I have been doing just that. Bringing mosaic closer to those who don't know it, who never had the chance to touch a mosaic tile or who might have ignored the perfect beauty of mosaic floors. I wanted to exalt mosaic.

I once remember someone's comment that said: "Thanks to you and your blog, I can no longer ignore mosaic floors!"

When I saw Dolce and Gabbana's recent Tailored Mosaic collection, besides almost fainting out of excitement, I knew I was RIGHT. And will you believe that long before the Tailored Mosaic's first appearance on the catwalk, I was envisioning prints of mosaics on silk fabric? But who am I to do such a thing?

If this is promoting mosaic art, I don't know. That's not my objective. My mission is mosaic as fashion and as a superb and exciting art form that's always "in".

Mosaic is posh!

Now thanks to

 Dolce & Gabbana,

Chanel,

Alexander McQueen,

Pentheroudakis,

Hermes,

PurseN,

Gwen Stefani

and others,

my seemingly pointless blogging now makes sense!

Sweet Byzantine Dreams

For someone who has "Byzantine" into her blood, this image was a "rude awakening" for me. But the dream was sweet. It was Byzantine.

MOSAIC IS KING! They finaly did it. I was expecting this would happen one day soon and it did! See this video and you will know what I mean.

First it was a flame, pretty intense one, sparked by Chanel with the Byzance Collection and now there's a FIRE burning out there for MOSAIC and I'm feeling, in a silly and childish way, even though Chanel or D&C don't know this blog exists, part of this "mosaic" fashion trend.

Just think that only yesterday I decided to go back to my old golden mosaic background. That had nothing to do with the D&C mosaic collection. I just wanted to go back to the basic and neutral background because it provides the best setting of what Mosaicology has been about. I don't now about the near future.

I'm not 100% sure about how much gold I will be showing you but a little voice is telling me there's some posh mosaic coming up soon.

Fish and Pearls Mosaic Cartier Scarf

I found this scarf on Pinterest from ComoMilano and I'm thinking of a mosaic art on scarves legacy pioneered by Hermes and previously featured on my blog.

This version - from Cartier - shows a new distinct style far away from anything vintage or classical. It's a mix and stir of diverse images for a very edgy, bold result.

Notice how there's no focus on one of the elements (mosaic or fish or pearls) but it's how together they form a unique image that rivals any other similar designer scarf for the improbable combination of sea life on tiles - and not water.

JewelMint Metal Mosaic Ring

Interesting idea of a one-piece mosaic crafted in such a way that it literally blends jewelery making and mosaic art. I'm not sure how long this has been available on jewelmint but it has definetely made an impact on women. Just google metal mosaic ring.

A Geisha like mosaic jacket

via

Faux mosaic tiles forming a circle at the back of this chic jacket. Wow!!!

What is stunning about this piece is not just the sculptured back with the little squares but also the embroidered border and surely the exquisite fabric suitable to sustain this type of decoration.

Reminds me of the Geisha dress.
